Trees for Troops Program
We’re proud supporters of the Trees For Troops program and have been participating in it for years now. Minter’s Farm is now a pick-up location for nearby farms to bring their donated trees and add them to the ever-growing pile of trees donated by our farm as well as our amazing customers who’ve donated a tree (or several trees)!
The program is designed to allow an active servicemember living on-base to be gifted a Christmas tree from families all around the country. The Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx teamed up and have created a program that is a truly magical way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for us.
The pick-up date at Minter’s Farm is generally the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and then the freight truck delivers the trees we load up to a specified base in time for the families to enjoy their tree for the season.

About the tree farm
Minter’s Farm, a family-owned establishment, has been growing Christmas trees for decades now. Our commitment to tradition is evident in every tree we grow. As a 5th generation farm, we take pride in our heritage and the role we play in bringing the community together through our annual events and our Christmas tree operation. Join us in celebrating the season with a tree from our farm, where history and holiday spirit come together.
Minter Farm is Fayette County’s largest Christmas tree farm, with more than 2,000 trees ready for purchase this Christmas season.

Murray Cypress, Carolina Sapphires and Blue Ice are trees we grow here on the farm. The Carolina Sapphires & Blue Ice are shorter season trees. **REMEMBER: It’s best to wait until the second week in December to start cutting them!**
We furnish saws so you can cut your own trees or we can always help you – just ask when you first get to the farm and then let us know whenever you find your tree! Since the fields are in the back of the farm, we will carry you on a hay ride to the trees. We have materials to tie your tree to your vehicle and can also drill your tree if your stand requires it.
Our Tree Selection
Fraser Fir
The Classic Choice
Known for its excellent needle retention and pleasant scent, the Fraser Fir is a favorite for those seeking a traditional Christmas tree experience. Unfortunately, these trees don’t grow in our Georgia climate so we have to bring them in from out of state (mostly North Carolina). We only get in a limited quantity of Frasers so be sure to call ahead to make sure we have them in stock… they go quickly! Each tree is individually priced (TBD).
Murray Cypress
The Tree That Stays Green
The Murray Cypress is very similar to the Leyland Cypress but has a stronger branch and waxier foliage as well. The Murrays do not have a needle so needle drop isn’t an issue! With a more mild scent, the Murray is also better for those with allergies and pets with allergies as well. Each tree is individually priced already between $9-12/foot. Any of the trees not tagged will be priced at $15/foot (it’s a future year’s crop).
Carolina Sapphire
Unique and Striking
The Carolina Sapphire stands out from the other trees we grow on the farm – they’re blue-green in color and have an incredible orange-clovelike scent. These trees have a bulb/pear shape to them and are more dense than the other trees we grow on the farm. The Sapphire has foliage similar to a Red Cedar in texture, though not quite as rough, and the temperament of one as well. The Sapphires will be ready to be cut starting the 2nd weekend in December due to their nature to dry out more quickly, creating a hazard in your home. Each tree is individually priced already between $9-12/foot. Any of the trees not tagged will be priced at $15/foot (it’s a future year’s crop).
Blue Ice
The Tapered Tree
The Blue Ice is very similar to the Carolina Sapphires in that they are also blue-green in color and have an unique scent. These trees have the shape of a flame, tapered and slimmer than the Sapphires. The Blue Ice has foliage similar to a Red Cedar in texture, though not quite as rough, and the temperament of one as well. The tips of the Blue Ice tend to turn white as they go through more cold spells. The Blue Ice will be also ready to be cut starting the 2nd weekend in December due to their nature to dry out more quickly, creating a hazard in your home. Each tree is individually priced already between $9-12/foot. Any of the trees not tagged will be priced at $15/foot (it’s a future year’s crop).
Tips for Real Trees:
- Make a fresh cut on the truck when you get home. The sap can seal over quickly and won’t allow water to be absorbed again. The bark is also a valuable way for the tree to absorb and keep the moisture; so avoid whittling away the sides of your trunk if at all possible.
- NEVER let the water go below the bottom of your trunk (it’s easy to forget but set a reminder on your phone to check/water your tree). As soon as you get home, place it in water. Trees like the Murrays and Sapphires (all part of the Cypress family) can take in as much as 2-3 gallons of water the first day after they’re cut.
- Do NOT place your tree near a heat source. It may look the best by your fireplace, but if it’s lit this year the tree will dry out and potentially catch fire! (Even a fake tree – the f-word for us at the farm – can catch fire by a lit fireplace). Remember, these trees are used to cooler/cold nights… and many of us don’t keep our homes in the 40s at night. Other heat sources are windows with sunlight pouring through, vents, TV set, etc..
- It is advised to keep your room temperature lower than usual to reduce drying out. If you don’t have options, be sure to close off your vents/block them off to reduce drying out.
- WATER WATER WATER! We cannot stress this one enough. They think it’s springtime when they get inside your warm and cozy homes!
- KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR PRAYING MANTIS NESTS! These are great insects for the *outdoors* but will hatch inside your warm home (since they think it’s springtime already). This is what they look like on your tree… and they are great at hiding!

Operating Hours
Visit Minter's Farm
Our Christmas tree farm is open to visitors from Monday to Friday, 11 AM to 6 PM and Saturday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM. For Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, our hours will be 9 AM to 6 PM. As the season goes on, the inventory of trees in the fields dwindles. We recommend checking back with us to make sure we’re open after the second weekend in December.
We welcome you to explore our farm and enjoy the fresh air while selecting the perfect Christmas tree for your home. Our friendly staff is always ready to assist you with any questions or special requests you may have.
